Content-adaptive Multiresolution Analyses

In this paper we present a technique for building adaptive wavelets by means of an extension of the lifting scheme and analyze the stability of the resulting decompositions. Our scheme comprises an adaptive update lifting and a fixed prediction lifting step. The adaptivity consists hereof that the system can choose between two different update filters, and that this choice is triggered by the l...

Image compression using non-stationary and inhomogeneous multiresolution analyses

New methods for lossy image compression based on wavelet theory are introduced. Unlike the classical wavelet decomposition scheme it is possible to have diierent scaling and wavelet lters at every scale by using non-stationary multiresolution analyses. For the bidimensional case inhomogeneous multires-olution analyses using diierent wavelet lters for the two variables are introduced. Beyond it,...

An Overview of Wavelet Based Multiresolution Analyses

In this paper we present an overview of wavelet based multiresolution analyses. First, we brie y discuss the continuous wavelet transform in its simplest form. Then, we give the de nition of a multiresolution analysis and show how wavelets t into it. We take a closer look at orthogonal, biorthogonal and semiorthogonal wavelets. The fast wavelet transform, wavelets on an interval, multidimension...

Multiresolution Analyses and Wavelets for Density Estimation

We use the concept of multiresolution analysis and orthonormal basis of wavelet functions to construct an estimator for an unknown density in a given Sobolev’s space. We show consistency with the rate of convergence equal to the optimal minimax rate of convergence. We also discuss some of the features of this new method of estimation on a numerical example.

Characterization of Generators for Multiresolution Analyses with Composite Dilations

and Applied Analysis 3 Proposition 1.3 see 4, 10 . A closed subspace X of L2 n is a reducing subspace if and only if X { f ∈ L2 n : supp ( f̂ ) ⊆ S } 1.5 for some measurable set S ⊆ n with ãS S. So, to be specific, one denotes a reducing subspace by L2 S ∨ instead of X. In particular, L2 n is a reducing subspace of L2 n . Definition 1.4 see 5–7 . Let B n be a subgroup of the integral affine grou...
